In the heart of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, aid workers continue their vital work amidst ongoing tension. Since July 2021, the city has been a target of missile and drone attacks by Russia, with the latest series of air strikes causing devastation overnight on Wednesday.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that these attacks targeted military equipment plants and Ukrainian air force support points. However, the EU delegation and the British cultural institute in Kyiv were among the civilian structures damaged during the assault.

Tragically, at least 18 people, including four children, lost their lives in these attacks. Around 50 more were injured. The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, strongly condemned these actions, calling them unacceptable and demanding an immediate halt to attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Guterres also called for a full, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire, aiming to lead to a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace in Ukraine. Zelensky, the Ukrainian President, expressed his gratitude for Guterres' supportive words and described the recent attacks in Kyiv as one of the largest by Russia.

Russia, in response, is reportedly presenting new conditions and continuing its aggression. In a conversation between Guterres and Zelensky, they discussed the steps needed to stop the killing of people.

In a show of solidarity, Zelensky thanked Guterres for his words of sympathy. Ukraine is now ready for a leadership-level meeting to address important issues. As the situation unfolds, the international community continues to watch and respond, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
