Weekend power outages in Venice not attributed to cyber assault, claims local authority
The iconic Venetian and Palazzo resorts in Las Vegas faced extensive outages recently, causing disruptions in various services and leading to speculation about a potential cyber attack. However, the properties have clarified that the issues were not due to a cyberattack but rather internet connectivity and power outages.
The outages resulted in phone lines, slot machines, and digital signs being offline in the properties. Guests experienced disruptions with check-ins, causing long lines in the lobby of The Venetian and Palazzo. In some cases, restaurants at the resorts reportedly only accepted cash payments during the outage.
The Venetian's IT team worked swiftly to restore systems, and the resort was working towards normal operations shortly after the incident. This is not the first time that slot machines at The Venetian have gone down, as a system upgrade was blamed for similar outages earlier this year. Some users have suggested that it might have been a software glitch instead.
It's important to note that this event follows a context where other major Las Vegas resorts like MGM and Caesars were victims of cyber attacks in 2023, which likely contributed to heightened guest concern and speculation. Nonetheless, the Venetian has clarified that this outage was unrelated to cyberattacks and linked instead to technical failures within their networks.
Despite the challenges, the Venetian and Palazzo remain committed to ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for their guests. The properties anticipate a quick return to normal operations.
