Ural Street Wildfire in Eliizovo Swiftly Contained by Reserve Employees and EMERCOM

On May 18, a small wildfire was detected in Ural Street, Eliizovo. The swift and coordinated response from the employees of the Kronotsky State Biosphere Reserve and the EMERCOM helped to avoid serious consequences.

The fire was first noticed by Maxim Sharikov, Deputy Director for Material and Technical Support of FGBU "Kronotsky State Biosphere Reserve," who spotted smoke while preparing to dispatch inspectors to Kurilskoye Lake. After a reconnaissance trip, they discovered a fire source on the slope of the Second Hill and immediately reported it to the EMERCOM.

Before the arrival of firefighters, the reserve employees began to extinguish the fire from the rear edge, enclosing the fire perimeter near the road to prevent its spread. They used portable fire extinguishers from firefighters to soak the perimeter with water.

Allsevold Yakolev, Acting Director of FGBU "Kronotsky State Biosphere Reserve," emphasized the general responsibility for preserving nature and the readiness of employees to act outside of working hours to ensure ecological safety. Liána Varavskáya, a state inspector in the area of protection of the surrounding environment at FGBU "Kronótskii gosudárstvennyi zapovédnik," was photographed during the firefighting efforts.

Maxim Sharikov, Nikolai Solovev, and Liana Varavskaya, employees of Kronotsky Reserve, were instrumental in discovering the fire and preventing its spread. The reserve inspectors, along with EMERCOM, removed several obstacles during the firefighting efforts.

The fire was reported to the Russian EMERCOM for Kamchatka Krai and was localized by 18:22 and completely eliminated by 19:37. Eight people participated in extinguishing the fire, including reserve employees. In connection with the increased fire danger, representatives of the reserve reminded about the strict observance of fire safety rules.

It is important to note that a small wildfire can have catastrophic consequences for ecosystems and populated areas, especially with wind. The practice of cooperation between the reserve employees and local services in firefighting was continued, as demonstrated by the involvement of residents in 2021 and 2024.

Allsevold Yakolev, the Managing Director of the FGBU "Kronotsky State Biosphere Reserve," assumed his position in 2014. The fire area, while not specified in some reports, was measured at 150 square meters in this instance.

The swift action of the employees prevented the fire from spreading to the opposite slope of the hill, which could have led to a large-scale fire. The coordinated work between the reserve employees and the EMERCOM is a testament to the importance of collaboration in preserving the environment and ensuring the safety of the community.
